graphic: checkmark Tip:Resources for Portfolio Preparation

As the Teaching Portfolio is used in more colleges and universities to assess candidates for employment and for the evaluation of teaching for promotion and tenure purposes, the number of resources available, in print and on the World Wide Web, increase:

  • One of the most extensive web-based resources is located on the site of Murdoch University in Australia. The path to the document requires that you enter: www.murdoch.edu.au and then admin/hr/promotionandprobation/ teaching portfolio. The effort to get there is worth it.

  • Also useful, and worth the effort to access is "Documenting Teaching Activity: A Step-by-Step Guide" from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. Easiest access to their pages is through www.dal.edu.ca, then use "Search" to locate "Teaching Dossier".

  • Penn State’s site is well done. Look at "Designing a Teaching Portfolio" at www.psu.edu/celt/portfolio.html.

  • Finally, there is a detailed guide to writing a "Teaching Philosophy Statement" at the site provided by Iowa State University’s Center for Teaching Excellence at www.cte.iastate.edu/tips/philosophy/html.
