What should I bring with me to PSP?

You should bring a fan, pillows, work out clothes, 2 business outfits, swimming attire, laptop, alarm clock, etc. Your official PSP welcome packet will include more items that you might consider bringing with you.

Why was I invited to attend PSP?

Invited students are selected based on their high school experiences. geographic location, and personal backgrounds. We felt that your participation in the program would be beneficial for your transition to college.

Why am I required to attend PSP?

The top 4 reasons ILR usually requires students to attend:

  • Your grades in classes related to ILR (i.e. math and english) were not as strong, but we felt with an early start we could ensure a smoothe transition from high school to college.
  • Your current geographic location is vastly different from that of Ithaca, NY. A summer in Ithaca is the perfect way to acclimate yourself to a new environment.
  • The overall trend in your grades throughout high school fluctuated and we felt that participating in PSP would ensure your success at Cornell University.
  • You are a member of the Educational Opportunity Program.

What does PSP cost?

To YOU, PSP is completely FREE!

What will be expected of me during PSP?

During PSP you will be expected to attend all classes, activities, and meetings. While on campus, you will be expected to follow all rules and regulations. 

How will the program help me?

This program will help you earn credit toward your college degree, get a head start on your GPA, meet new people, and learn your way around the campus before eevryone else!

What do students in PSP do?

Students in PSP attend classes, participate in activities, meet with their College Associate, attend meetings with their assigned Program Assistant, explore the campus and the Ithaca community.

What if I need to work this summer?

Unfortunately, having to work is not reason enough to be excused from attending PSP.

How are students selected?

Please see question number 2.

How do I travel to Cornell for the summer?

If you live in NYC, a bus will be sent to pick you up. However, if you are coming from other locations you will be fully reimbursed for travel.

What if the PSP dates conflict with my graduation and prom?

You are an adult now and a part of being an adult is making decisions. You will be permitted to attend both of these events; however, it will be your responsibility to ensure that you obtain any information from the classes you miss while you are away. PSP will ONLY pay for your transportation to attend graduation.

What happens if I do not attend PSP or do not successfully complete the program?

If you choose not to attend PSP or do not successfully complete the program, you will NOT be permitted to attend Cornell University in the Fall. There are NO exceptions.
