Young Workers and the Labor Movement

Describe your research project: With Lowell Turner we're looking at the efforts that unions are making to attract and include young workers. This project looks at efforts here in the United States and in 5 other countries, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, and the Netherlands.

What have you gotten out of the experience so far? I've learned a lot about unions today and the disconnect that young workers often feel when faced with an aging leadership that is unable or unwilling to understand them. This experience has also taught me a lot about doing research in a formal team setting as well.

Why might other students be interested in pursuing this opportunity? It's a great way to work with professors on issues that they're interested in. I've also been able to apply things that I've learned in class to my work at the Worker Institute and vice versa.
