Research Project: Project Sandy – Labor, Environment and Sustainable Development

I work with Lara Skinner and Sean Sweeney on Project Sandy: Labor, Environment and Sustainable Development. We spent the semester looking into green energy alternatives for New York State and researching policy alternatives. The goal is to write a Green Energy Plan for New York that labor unions can actively support.

I have learned much more about energy politics in New York and the reality behind environmentally friendly energy. Other countries have adopted amazing green energy policies that New York can hope to model.

Project: Young Workers and the Labor Movement

Describe your research project: I work with Professor Lowell Turner and MILR student Zach Cunningham researching young people in the workforce and labor movement.

What have you gotten out of the experience so far?: I have gained a better understanding of the inner workings of the labor movement. Like any other organization, labor is constantly working to improve itself and its services.

What kind of student might be interested in a research fellowship at the Worker Institute?: Any and all ILR students would love the Worker Institute. There is something for everyone at WI, ranging from legal issues to the environment.
