ICS Director Kevin Hallock tapped by Wall Street Journal to share insight on pay transparency

"Don't discuss your pay with co-workers." Many employees are told this, but that doesn't mean it's effective, or even legally binding. Kevin Hallock, Director of the Institute for Compensation Studies at the Cornell ILR School, believes norms are changing. "People are much more willing to talk about pay than they were even 10 years ago," Hallock told the Wall Street Journal recently (April 16 2013, "Workers Share Their Salary Secrets"). More employees, especially those frequently sharing personal information via social media tools outside of work hours, are comfortable and interested in discussing their pay for comparison purposes.
