Drinking Behavior Among College Students
September 30 2005
Prof. William Sonnenstuhl, ILR graduate student Galia Porat, and University Health Services administrator Deborah Lewis talked with senior citizens on Sept. 27 about binge drinking on college campuses. Their presentation was part of an ongoing educational series sponsored by Lifelong, the Tompkins County Office of the Aging.
Media reports depict drinking by college students as an epidemic of “binge drinking.” Are things really that bad? This class examined the drinking behavior of college students and how colleges are reducing the harm associated with excessive drinking. The class discussed survey data of college drinking behavior, media reports of student drinking, and how college programs such as BASICs work to reduce the harm associated with students’ heavy drinking.
