Colvin Giving Lecture

A lecture entitled “The Metastasization of Mandatory Arbitration” will be presented Tuesday at the Chicago-Kent College of Law by Alexander J.S. Colvin, ILR’s Martin F. Scheinman Professor of Conflict Resolution and associate dean for academic affairs, diversity and faculty development.

This event will be webcast live from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Click here to watch.

Colvin will present evidence from a new national survey of employers showing that mandatory arbitration has continued to expand and now covers over half of private sector non-union workers. Read the study.

The metastasization of mandatory arbitration, he said, means that more American workers now must bring their employment claims to arbitration than can take their claims to court, with profound implications for how we think about our system of employment law.

Since 1979, the Kenneth M. Piper Memorial Lecture in Labor Law has brought together experts from labor, management and academia to debate current issues in labor relations.

Others from ILR who have presented the lecture are Professor James Gross and Senior Lecturer Lance Compa.
