ILR's Stuart Basefsky receives several recognitions

ILR's Stuart Basefsky, Senior Reference Librarian, Catherwood Library, received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Librarianship. The Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Librarianship is granted under terms of criteria established by SUNY Central.

Quoting from the guidelines produced by SUNY: "The Chancellor's Awards for Excellence are system-level honors conferred to acknowledge and recognize superior professional achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence."

Performance in the following areas must have been extraordinary:

  1. Skill in librarianship,
  2. Service to the university and to the profession, and
  3. Scholarship and continuing professional growth.

Candidates are nominated at the local level and submitted to SUNY for review and final determination. Nominations are accepted by SUNY each February, and three staff at Catherwood have been granted this level of recognition since inception of this award program: Richard Strassberg (1988), Phil Dankert (2003), and Stuart Basefsky (2005).

Stuart was formally presented with the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Librarianship last on Friday, November 11 during the ILR Faculty Meeting. ILR also had a celebration in the Catherwood Library on November 14.
