Vernon Briggs to participate in public policy debate on immigration

September 23 2007

The NYC event will be broadcast this fall on National Public Radio

Vernon M. Briggs, ILR School emeritus professor of industrial and labor relations and labor economics, will be joined by a distinguished group of participants for a high-profile public debate on the subject of illegal immigration into the United States.

The debate is sponsored by The Rosenkranz Foundation and will be held October 9 in New York City at the Asia Society and Museum. It will be moderated by John Hockenberry of ABC News and taped for later broadcast on National Public Radio this fall

Briggs, a nationally-recognized authority on immigration and the labor force, will speak in favor of the motion. In addition to Briggs, the debate features panelists from the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington DC, the Manhattan Institute in New York City, the Cato Institute in Washington DC, and the Border Angels from southern California. The audience on the evening of Oct. 9 will vote to name the winners of the debate

The Oxford-style debate is part of a series of live debates on vital public policy issues organized by Intelligence Squared US, a New York-based initiative of The Rosenkranz Foundation designed to raise the level of public discourse on society’s most challenging issues.
