UAW appoints Dean Harry Katz to the Public Review Board
September 25 2006
Harry C. Katz, Dean of the ILR School and the Jack Sheinkman Professor of Collective Bargaining, has recently been appointed to the Public Review Board (PRB) of the UAW. Professor Katz is the second member of the ILR School to sit on the PRB, following in the illustrious steps of Dr. Jean McKelvey, who was a member of the PRB from 1960 through 1998.
The Public Review Board was established on April 8, 1957, when the UAW took the extraordinary step of establishing "a public review board of independent distinguished citizens to which members could appeal their grievances against the union and which could act, on its own motion, as censor of the union's moral conduct." The PRB also "has the obligation to deal with 'alleged violations of any AFL-CIO ethical practices codes, or any ethical practices codes adopted by the international union.'"
