Blessing's presentation was developed out of a collaborative effort with EDI colleagues Thomas Golden, associate director and S. Antonio Ruiz-Quintanilla, senior research associate, and co-presenter Connie Ferrell, Integrated Services, Inc., promoting the work associated with the New York State Department of Correctional Services and the New York State Division of Parole From Inmate to Citizen project sponsored by the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council.
The conference was hosted by the Northern Ireland Union of Supported Employment (NIUSE). Key themes of the conference were Good Practice, Leadership, Managing Change and Mainstreaming.
Blessing’s presentation provided an overview of the objectives of the Inmate to Citizen Project, interventions being utilized, impacts to date and, products that are available based on project activities. It highlighted the system change and system impact to date of a research-based demonstration project designed to facilitate the successful re-entry of inmates with developmental disabilities into community life.
Thomas Golden plans to make a similar presentation at the International Corrections Education Association conference in Melbourne, Australia, October 29-31, 2007.
