Certificate Programs

CertificateCornell ILR offers the most comprehensive array of certificates for professionals in the workplace. Choose from 17 certificate programs of study to acquire the specialized knowledge and skills you need to succeed in today's changing work environment. Employers and employees alike recognize ILR as the leading authority on issues related to the workplace. A Cornell certificate provides you with in-depth expertise in your chosen field, improves your job performance, and equips you with an added credential to help you advance in your career.

Each curriculum includes core workshops that span the depth of contemporary knowledge and offers electives that allow you to tailor the certificate to your individual development needs.

General Requirements

To earn a certificate from Cornell, all workshops associated with your certificate must be taken within a five-year period. You must attend in its entirety and actively participate in each workshop, and complete any prework, assignments, or evaluations.

It is not necessary to officially enroll in a certificate program although we do recommend that you let us know when you attend a workshop that you are applying it toward earning a certificate.  Each certificate's specific requirements, along with a faculty contact, are detailed on the individual certificate pages.

Workshops and Units Needed

The number of workshops needed to complete a certificate varies depending on the curriculum. Most certificates require 3 to 7 workshops, totaling 6 to 14 days of training. See the individual certificate requirements for more information.

One day of training equals 6 units. A one-day workshop is 6 units, a two-day workshop is 12 units, and a three-day workshop is 18 units. Most certificates require at least 60 units, but you may actually end up with more units based on which elective(s) you choose.

Length of Time to Complete a Certificate

All required workshops for each certificate must be completed within a five-year period. Most participants choose to complete their certificate within a year and a half. Certificates can be earned in as little as two weeks, depending upon how you decide to schedule your training and which certificate you decide to pursue.

Applying a Workshop to More Than One Certificate

In general, a workshop's units may be applied toward only one certificate. Exceptions are noted in each certificate's description.

The Certificate Award

When you complete the final workshop in your chosen curriculum, you will be awarded a framed Cornell ILR certificate that attests to your achievement.
