Leadership requires a careful balance between taking control of decision making and allowing others the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed on their own. This balance carries more and more risk for managers as their responsibilities and positions grow in an organization. Too much control, and good independent managers get stifled. Too much delegating, and critical organizational initiatives may fail to meet expectations. The first thing a successful manager must know is when to set the course for others and when to turn responsibility over to them. In addition, we all have years of experience in getting things done, and in making business decisions that work. Adapting your decision making style for more effective leadership is not easy since we all tend to default to learned behaviors from prior settings such as family life, school, or other work environments. This workshop will use the Vroom-Yetton model to explore what to take into account when adapting decision-making styles to the situation at hand. Key Topics
Special Features Each participant will receive a customized report outlining his or her strengths and weaknesses around group decision-making processes. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore a situation in their own organization and determine which management style would best serve in that circumstance. Registration for this program closes three weeks in advance to allow for completion of individual assessments. Instructor Laura Freebairn-Smith |
