In the public sector, managers must work not only within the confines of the civil service law and under the scrutiny of a legislative body, but very often they must work within a collective bargaining agreement. Effective managers know the benefits and drawbacks of managing under a collective bargaining agreement and the benefits of establishing a constructive relationship with their union counterparts. This workshop will cover:
- The roles and rights of management and employees under New York State's Taylor Law
- How to manage effectively under a collective bargaining agreement
- Interest-based techniques for contract administration and conflict management
- Using progressive discipline effectively
