Creating a Culture of Accountability – Without the Blame Game
Workshop time: 8:30am to Noon - lunch to follow.
Successful leaders know that what they pay attention to gets done, and that too much attention ('micro-managing') can actually have the opposite affect and prevent things from getting done. How do successful managers set and achieve important team goals AND avoid micro-managing? They create a culture of accountability - to getting work done, to the team, and to each other.
In this workshop we will explore two main areas of leader focus that build accountability: performance and standards of behavior. Before we can hold anyone accountable (or, they hold US accountable!), we have to agree on shared behavioral expectations and productivity goals. Once these bases are established, successful leaders work to ensure accountability without blaming, and to get their group to support them in developing and maintaining a culture of accountability. This program will explore a number of tools and techniques used by successful managers and teams to set these bases and make shared accountability 'Standard Operating Procedure'.
Key Topics
- What can leaders hold people accountable to
- Why is accountability so hard
- How to avoid the traps of "holding them accountable!"
- Setting expectations

Special Feature
If you find that a few of the topics in this presentation 'hit a nerve', and you'd like the opportunity to discuss them with a knowledgeable resource - here's your chance! After this Breakfast Series presentation, we'll break for lunch. Then, we'll reconvene a 'Round Table Discussion' of accountability issues and difficulties hosted by your instructor, Ted Baumhauer. Anyone who attended the morning session is invited to stay for a couple of hours and share their questions, workplace experiences and more of Ted's tools and techniques in this mutual learning discussion from about 12:30 until 2:30.
