Catherwood Library

Audiovisual Materials

A portion of Catherwood's video and DVD collectionThe current ILR audiovisual collection is located behind the service desk in the Periodicals Area on the first floor of Catherwood. It consists of several hundred VHS tapes relevant to ILR subjects. As they become available, we will be adding DVDs to the collection. Feature films, documentaries, and locally produced videos are available.

Please keep in mind that AV materials in film or Umatic format have been transferred to the Kheel Center.

AV titles are included in the Cornell Library Catalog. See the guide on finding video and non-musical recordings for tips on locating AV materials in the Library Catalog.

Videos in the circulating collection can be checked out to Cornell students, faculty, and staff at the first floor desk. The standard loan period is two weeks.

VHS tapes and DVDs may be viewed within the Library. A TV with a VCR player and a DVD player is located in the Periodicals Area. Up to three people can use this equipment with headphones. Obtain headphones at the Periodicals Area service desk.

Larger groups can also view videotapes within the Library. Please contact ilrref@cornell.edu, 607-255-2184 for further information.

Arranging for Classroom Use of AV Materials

ILR instructors who would like to show films or videos in ILR classrooms should contact ILR Technology Services at ILRAV@cornell.edu. 48 hours advanced notice is requested.

Cornell resident and Extension faculty may reserve a video that is part of the ILR collection, by emailing ilrref@cornell.edu.

Please request videos at least two weeks before the date needed to allow library staff time to verify that the requested videos are available.

If the requested video is not available, a purchase request can be filled for a new AV title.

Kheel Center Photo Database

Men and women sewing by hand, while other men appear to be overseeing workThe Kheel Center's collections include approximately 350,000 images from the 20th century on film, paper, glass, and other media. The collected photographic materials provide invaluable documentation of the nature of labor and management history. While the digital database will be added to continually, it represents only an introduction to the Kheel Center's holdings. Please contact the Kheel Center to discuss your image needs further.
