ILRHR 663 Managerial Financial Analysis

Hint #1:  Choose a public company.  Detailed financial analysis will be much more difficult (if not impossible), if you are trying to research a private company.  Public companies,  which trade shares in the company on the open market, are required by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to publicly disclose financial information.  Private companies do not have these disclosure requirements.

Hint #2:  Other Guides
The Catherwood Library's Company/Industry Subject Guide and the Johnson Graduate School of Management (JGSM) Library guides to company and industry research both offer more comprehensive listings of resources.

Here is a select list of resources that should help get you started with your Case Analysis assignment:

Company Financials

Hoover’s Online – Basic company profiles and financial information.

Mergent Online – Comprehensive database for company financials in an easily downloadable format.  Also includes Annual Reports and Industry Reports.

Thompson ONE Banker - Detailed company information, including financials, earnings estimates, private equity investors, deals, and more.

LexisNexis (Campus version) - Articles and financials provided by other published sources.  NOTE:  ILR Students can request an ILR Student Lexis ID at the Catherwood Library Reference Desk.  Requires training, if you have not previously had an ID.

Industry analysis

Market Insight - Includes Standard & Poor's Industry Surveys, which are extensive reports on major U.S. industries. These reports are written by S&P analysts and are updated quarterly.

Hoover 's Online - Also provides Industry informatioin, including lists of companies, news, industry codes, and trade associations.

Business & Company Resource Center  - Provides electronic access to many industry publications, including Encyclopedia of American Industries, Encyclopedia of Emerging Industries, and Encyclopedia of Global Industries.
