Instructors
Joe Alvarez, M.S.O.D., is a leadership and organization development consultant. He served as the national Political Director for ACTWU and then UNITE, and then as the AFL-CIO's Northeast Region Director until 2005. Joe teaches and consults with unions on supervisory, managerial, and leadership issues.
Sally Alvarez Ph.D., Director of Labor Programs for Cornell ILR Extension, specializes in leadership development and organizational communication in unions. She helped found and directed the Union Leadership Institute, a joint project of the NYS AFL-CIO and Cornell.
Esta R. Bigler, J.D., directs Cornell ILR's Labor and Employment Law program. She worked as an attorney with the NLRB, an associate in the union side labor law firm Vladeck et al, General Counsel of NYC's Bureau of Labor Services, and Director of ILR Extension in NYC.
Ken Margolies, M.S., of Cornell ILR, has supervised union staff as Senior Representative of Local 715 SEIU, Organizing Director of CWA, and Education Director of the Teamsters. He is currently studying and writing on human resources/labor relations strategies for unions.
Arthur T. Matthews, J.D., is a labor and human resources consultant and a mediator. He was a Field Representative for the Public Employees Federation, a hearing officer for the MTA, on the labor staff of Cornell ILR and teaches human resources and labor relations at NYU.
