Labor, Government & Politics

The U.S. elections will have concluded; the fate of workers and unions will be greatly affected by the legislators and policymakers who assume office in 2013. In this course students will examine the political party system and political campaigns, the role of "interest groups" and lobbies, and the impact of news media in shaping public opinion. The emphasis will be on the ways in which elected officials and those they appoint influence the nation's policies that affect democracy, social and economic strategies, and, ultimately, the world of work.
