From a frontier town to a major transshipment point to heavy industry to the service sector, the history of Buffalo is the history of the US economy and the history of American workers and we’ll prove it this term. This semester learn more about Buffalo’s unique role in the American labor movement and the crucial labor struggles that occurred right here in Western New York. Instructor Alex Blair earned a Ph.D. in U.S. History from the University at Buffalo. He was an extension faculty member at Cornell University’s ILR School from 1987 to 2002 and continues as an adjunct faculty member at the ILR School. He has also worked as the executive producer and co-host of the union-sponsored and syndicated radio show "Prospering in America" and a morning drive-time host on a progressive news-talk station. He currently teaches US history at a number of colleges in the Buffalo area. He is currently working on a number of labor history projects including a book on anti-unionism and the rise of conservative politics after World War II. |
