Bruce Adams: Biography

Bruce Adams is a Buffalo native.  Trained in art education at Buffalo State College, he bridges the teaching and art worlds as a painter, installation artist, and art teacher.  Although known as a figurative painter, he does not rely on a single personal painting style.  Rather he adopts different styles, often historical ones, to explore contemporary issues through contextually redefined artistic conventions.

Adams'' work has been exhibited at White Columns in NYC, the Castellani Museum in Niagara Falls, Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Big Orbit, and Hallwalls in Buffalo.  He has done installations and performances in Buffalo''s First Night.  The Urban Art Project, and the Artists and Models Affair.  He is the former director of peopleart bflo, and currently serves as president on Hallwalls Board of Directors.  In 2000, the National Art Education Association named him New York State Art Educator of the Year.
