The Future of US Health Care with Ruben J. King-Shaw, David B. Lipsky, and William J. Sonnenstuhl
Time & Location: The Cornell Club, 6 East 44th Street (between Madison and Fifth) in Manhattan from 6:30pm to 9:00pm
The US health care system is in crisis. We pay more for health care than any other country in the world, and 47 million Americans lack any form of health insurance. A recent study of industrialized countries examining amenable mortality rates – deaths that could have been prevented with timely and effective care – put the US at 19 out of 19.
Reforming the US health care system is once again on everyone’s political agenda. Mr. King-Shaw and Professors Lipsky and Sonnenstuhl will examine the current state of US health care and some of the proposed reforms, drawing lessons from other health care systems and examining the potential of electronic medical records in reforming the quality and efficacy of US health care.
Ruben J. King-Shaw, Jr. (ILR '83) Mr. King-Shaw is a founding partner of Pan American Risk Management, LLC. He has extensive expertise in health policy, economics, and finance, having served in the George W. Bush Administration from 2001 to 2003. He is a member of the ILR Advisory Council and the recipient of the 2008 Jerome Alpern Award.
David B. Lipsky (ILR '61) is the Anne Evans Estabrook Professor of Dispute Resolution and Director of the Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution at Cornell University.
William J. Sonnenstuhl is an Associate Professor in the Department of Organizational Behavior and the Department of Extension at the ILR School. He is also Associate Director of the R. Brinkley Smithers Institute for Alcohol-Related Workplace Studies.
