Fall 2006 International Experience Grant Recipients
ILR International Programs is pleased to announce recipients of our Fall 2006 International Experience Grants. Congratulations! We look forward to sharing the students' reports and photos describing their international projects when they return in Spring.
Satoshi Tozaki, MILR ’07, will conduct research for an independent study this Winter break in Shanghai, China. He will collect data on on the influence of multinational companies’ human resource practices on the empowerment of female workers in the local labor market of a small suburb of Shanghai. As China undergoes rapid globalization, the empowerment of women, if achieved, is a crucial step towards economic development. Satoshi will visit companies, among them General Electric, to gather his data. (View Satoshi’s proposal and read his Experience Report.)
Elizabeth Zimmer, BS ’07, will travel the highlands of the Andes Mountains in Peru this Winter break to act as a volunteer with Tinkuy Peru, an NGO that works with children that have been forced by poverty to work long hours in unsafe conditions. She will spend her time at one of Tinkuy Peru’s orphanages teaching English and educating parents on the dangers and costs of child labor. (View Elizabeth’s proposal.)
