Fall 2007 Experience Grant Recipients Honored
ILR International Programs is pleased to announce recipients of our Fall 2007 International Experience Grants competition, Micheal Snyder, Stephanie Pompelia and Michael Bolos. Congratulations! See there information and read about there experiences below.
Michael Snyder, ILR BS ’08, will travel to London over the winter session to study the changing economic framework within which trade unions around the globe operate. As part of his Senior Honors Thesis, his research will examine union rationale and strategy while embarking on international campaigns. He plans to interview various union officials, employees and activists during the winter break. This field data will be supported by research he been granted access to at the Transport and General Workers Union Department of Research. (view Michael’s proposal)
Stephanie Pompelia, ILR BS ’08, aims to do a comparative study between teacher unions in the United States (the National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers) and in Kenya (Kenya National Union of Teachers) over the winter ‘07-08 break. For her research she will travel to Nairobi, Kenya and will focus on how instrumental the two unions have been in enabling education for all at the primary level and on ensuring children receive the quality of education as outlined by the ILO’s Convention on the Rights of the Children. After spending an academic year studying at Oxford University, Michael Bolos BS ILR’08 returned to the location that sparked his original honors thesis idea. He spent two weeks in England to further his thesis research entitled, “A Comparative Analysis of Skills and Production in the U.S. and U.K Manufacturing Sector”. The International Experience Grant afforded Michael the opportunity to look into the dramatic losses suffered by the UK manufacturing sector and supported his travels across England to conduct site-visits and interviews with leading academics in the field.
