Stephen Bach is a Reader in Employment Relations, Department of Management, King's College London. Stephen's research interests focus on the reform of employment relations in the public sector, especially in the NHS. He has recently completed an ESRC funded research project that examined assistant roles in the public services. This compared the role of health care assistants, teaching assistants and social care assistants. He is also researching the international mobility of health professionals focused on nurse migration to the UK.
While he is at Cornell, he will be working with Rebecca Givan on the impact of public-private partnerships on employment relations in the NHS. This work is funded by the Leverhulme Foundation and addresses the future of public service trade unionism. Stephen's recent publications include the edited collection 'Managing Human Resources: Personnel Management in Transition', Oxford: Blackwell, 2005 and 'Employment Relations in the NHS: The Management of Reform', London: Routledge, 2004.
