Ludger Pries, professor of sociology, holds the Chair on Sociology of Organisations and Participation Studies/Labour Regulation, is Dean of the Department of Social Science at Ruhr-Universität Bochum and the representative of his university for the cooperation agreement with the Metalworkers’ Union in Germany. During the last twenty years he did international comparative research in sociology of work, organizations, and migration in Brazil, Mexico, Spain, USA, and Germany. He was professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana/Mexico, at the University of Saarland/Germany and the University of Göttingen/Germany.
He has written ten books, more than 50 articles in reviewed journals and more than 60 book chapters, and has co-edited 16 books. Currently he is working on European Works’ Councils as transnational organisations in five European countries, on labour regulation patterns at factory level in Germany and on transnational migrant organisations.
Professor Pries comes to ILR on a fellowship from the Thyssen-Foundation and will visit through mid-September, 2006. During his brief stay he will do a comparative analysis of labor regulation patterns at the factory level in Germany, the UK, Canada, and the USA. His faculty sponsor is Dean Harry Katz.
