Jarrett Stoltzfus, BS ILR '06
Jarrett Stoltzfus received support for a summer 2005 internship in Ocatal, Nicaragua — a small town near the Honduras-Nicaragua border. Jarrett is participating in an internship language school program through CUSLAR (the Committee on U.S. — Latin American Relations), a project of CRESP (the Center for Religion, Ethics, and Social Policy) at Cornell.
Jarret's internship is with an NGO (non-governmental organization) where student placement is based on proficiency in Spanish.
"I plan to be working with an organization that combines my strong technology background (I worked in technology related nonprofits for two years before transferring to ILR), with my strong interest in labor issues and immigration issues. I hope to be able to utilize my interest in the latter, and take what I have learned in my time in ILR, in my internationally focused classes, and learn more about it from the side of a developing country."
He explains that as a transfer student to ILR as a junior, "I was not able to study abroad during the academic year so this is my first opportunity to travel abroad. It is also a wonderful opportunity for me to gain more fluency in Spanish."
