ILR 608-Workers' Rights as Human Rights

ILR 608 Workers' Rights as Human Rights

A new, path-breaking course was offered by Professor James Gross during the Spring 2005 semester. ILR 608 Workers' Rights as Human Rights is a collaborative educational venture being undertaken by the ILR School and the International Labour Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. The ILO is the agency of the United Nations that deals most directly and comprehensively with issues of work and workplace relations around the world. The course originated here in Ithaca, but also enrolled ILR credit interns in Geneva working at the ILO.

Members of the ILO's professional staff attended the course on a regular basis. Professor Gross will be assisted in teaching the course by Professor Lance Compa here in Ithaca, and by an impressive array of luminaries drawn from the leadership ranks of the ILO. The focus of the course is on workers' rights considered in the broad (and expanding) context of human rights.
