ILR Welcomes Visiting Fellows from Around the World
International Programs (IP) recently hosted a reception for new and returning ILR Visiting Fellows, an event that brought together scholars from around the world who come to pursue research in global workplace topics. Visiting Fellows were joined by their Cornell faculty sponsors, family, and others at ILR involved in the growing Visiting Fellow Program. This was the first gathering of its kind for the Program and the last gathering in ILR's comfortable Doherty Lounge before it closes its doors for renovations.
Over an international assortment of refreshments and appetizers, visiting fellow Zhongxing-Su, who had arrived earlier in the week from Renmin University in Beijing, had the opportunity to meet colleagues, discuss research interests, and life in Ithaca among other things. Robin Remick, managing director of IP, gave a warm welcome to the group and introduced Dean Harry Katz who stressed the importance of the Visiting Fellow Program to the ILR school.
Dean Katz encouraged visiting fellows to present their research at department workshops and to actively participate in ILR seminars. Ludger Pries, visiting fellow and Dean of the Department of Social Science at Ruhr-Universitat Bochum, presented at a colloquia on his research interest days earlier. The intimate get-together was a great way to introduce people to one another, welcome new visiting fellows, and say good bye to those who are leaving.
