ILR student, Corey Kaplan, contributes as co-author for the UNEP 2006 Labor and Environment Report
The 2006 Report on Labour and the Environment is a major collaboration between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), International Labour Organization (ILO), World Health Organization (WHO), as well as workers and trade unions (represented by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the International Labour Foundation for Sustainable Development (Sustainlabour)). Among it’s co-authors is Corey Kaplan, an ILR intern who worked in the SAFEWORK Program of the ILO in Geneva during the Spring of 2006. This is just an example of the impact ILR students can have through international credit internships.
For more than twenty-five years juniors and seniors from the ILR School have had opportunities to enhance their understanding of the field of industrial and labor relations by working for a semester in one of the professional careers it encompasses. In recent years, the ILR Credit Internship Program has expanded its scope to offer international opportunities to students.
Corey Kaplan is one of many ILR students who took advantage of the unique partnership with the ILR School and the International Labour Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. SAFEWORK is an ILO program on safety and health at work and the environment. The Labour and the Environment: A Natural Synergy, publication presents examples of the application of technical expertise, of workplace participation, and of the tools that promote workers' health and safety to problems that extend beyond the workplace into areas such as environment protection, public health and the accountability to future involvement of employers (Foreward).
