ILR students traveled to Nicaragua during their spring break

DSCF60251 []nica1 []ILR students Christine Liguori ‘08 and Katherine Patrick ’09 traveled to Nicaragua during their spring break as participants of a Cornell University Bridges to Community service learning trip. Bridges to Community is a non-profit cultural exchange program aimed at treating basic needs as human rights. A group of about forty Cornell undergraduates volunteered their money and time to live in a materially poor community in nica3 []Ticuantepe, Nicaragua, where they helped build three houses and a footbridge along side local masons and families. The students lived within the communities and were able to foster relationships with the Nicaraguan people while experiencing their food and culture. Supplementing this trip is a semester long course in which the students engage in discussion about Nicaraguan history, politics, culture, environment, gender and the roles NGOs play throughout the developing world.
