Rocks and Hard Places: A Summary of the Monitoring Freedom of Association Seminar
August 9 2005
This is a summary of the 2005 Freedom of Association seminar held by ILR International Programs and the ILR Metropolitan Office's Global Labor Institute. The event brought top leaders from brand-name firms, worker advocacy groups, and government agencies to the first-of-its-kind seminar on monitoring workers' freedom of association under corporate "codes of conduct" for supplier factories overseas.
This summary is intended to give a general overview of the seminar and the exchanges it inspired. Comments and suggestions for new or revised program content are welcome as we move toward a decision on holding a second seminar in 2006.
