Scheinman Institute participates in international activities

David Lipsky, Director of the Scheinman Institute, highlights their international activities.

BL: Professor Lipsky, what international-related work have you and the Scheinman Institute done in the past?

DL: One principal project in which I participated was an evaluation of the ombudsman's office at the United Nations. I was a member of a team of four outside evaluators, and we conducted the evaluation principally during the spring of 2007 and submitted our final report in June of that year. Rocco Scanza and I continue to have discussions with the UN ombudsman's office as well as other workplace dispute resolution professionals at the UN about additional projects we might undertake for the UN.

BL: What international activities is the Scheinman Institute planning on doing in the future?

DL: At the March 2009 meeting of the Scheinman Institute's board of advisors, the board approved a proposal to develop a joint educational program on ADR with the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. The program has been developed by Professor John Barcelo of the Cornell Law School, who works closely with the Scheinman Institute. Professor Barcelo and Mary Newhart, the assistant director of the Scheinman Institute, will offer a week-long ADR course at the University of Buenos Aires in June 2009.

Also the Scheinman Institute regularly offers cross-cultural conflict resolution training sessions. This past January we offered a three-day version of this program for Cornell students on campus.  The program was oversubscribed.
