Global Leadership: Winning in the Dynamic Marketplace

The Strategic HR, Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness group (SHRLOE) of the Johnson School and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) at Cornell University will host its 4th annual symposium on Friday, October 27, 2006 at Sage Hall, room B09, on the Cornell campus. The event provides an opportunity for business executives, leading academics, and interested students to explore the cutting edge issues in the world of human resources. More than a speaker series, Global Leadership: Winning in the Dynamic Marketplace presents a forum for conversation and debate regarding the current and long-term challenges facing leaders engaged in global competition. The symposium will begin with a keynote address at 9:00 am by Anand Chandrasekher, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Ultra Mobile Group, Intel who will discuss the importance of developing a global presence through outstanding leadership. The symposium will continue with a case study at 10:15 am on the "Challenges with Global Leadership" with American Express and Deloitte Consulting. The case study panel will examine the perspectives of different players involved in global business, including how divisions work together to develop managers with visionary leadership and the execution of firm strategy on a global stage. The final panel includes leaders from Starbucks, Microsoft, and Pfizer and will begin at 11:30 am. Moderated by Dr. Richard Shafer, Associate Dean of the Johnson School, the panel will address the advantages gained and lessons learned from the global leadership initiatives at various companies and will examine the impact of the globalized economy and demand for international experience on firm culture.
