We are pleased to announce the visit of Wolf-Jürgen Röder of the German Metalworkers Union, and Nikolaus Simon from our ILR partner Hans-Böckler-Stiftung. This is an interim activity of the Transatlantic Social Dialogue -- the next full conference is here in Ithaca, May 8-10, 2009.

Wolf-Jürgen Röder was a long-standing member of the executive board of the IG Metall. This union, representing 2.3 million members in metalworking and electronics industries, has been the pacesetter for social progress in Germany and much of Europe. Wolf-Jürgen now serves as director of the Otto Brenner Foundation, named after the president of legendary fame who led IG Metall from 1956 to 1972.
Nikolaus Simon is director of the Hans Böckler Foundation, named after the first chairperson of the DGB - the umbrella organisation of the German trade unions. The Foundation has developed a broad diversity of activities ranging from publications to research and scholarships.
