Dr. Lisa Nishii Takes on New Role as Director of International Programs, ILR
As the leading expert on diversity and inclusion at the ILR School, Dr. Lisa Nishii has taken on a new role as the Director of International Programs (IP). Much of Dr. Nishii’s research focuses on a climate for active inclusion and her new role in the IP Department acts as a seamless fit for both her professional and personal interests. After taking over the position from Sarosh Kuruvilla, Nishii hopes to continue to keep up the momentum of international programming at the ILR School.
When asked what she hopes to achieve in her tenure as the Director, Dr. Nishii describes her vision to increase the number of students that are having international experiences while also finding the appropriate balance of high quality programs and initiatives. Nishii also hopes to continue to increase the geographical opportunities for students to explore while also facilitating more faculty opportunities abroad. Dr.Nishii further describes her hope “to push boundaries, broaden thinking, stimulate greater creativity, and enhance the school’s overall cultural competence …” Nishii also hopes to learn more about those students who came to the ILR program with no intention of an international experience and are leaving with a new vision of how they would like to incorporate an international focus in their careers. She hopes that people will leave here more curious and continue to have a driving desire to explore beyond their local boundaries.
Dr. Nishii has received a number of prestigious academic recognitions and she looks forward to working with the faculty, students and International Programs Committee on growing ILR’s international presence.
