Glenn Grindlinger BSILR'96 Establishes the International Experience Fund

Glenn Grindlinger, ILR'96Glenn Grindlinger BSILR '96 and Brooke Grindlinger generously provided ILR with funds to establish the Brooke & Glenn Grindlinger International Experience Fund for ILR undergraduate students undertaking academic activity in Australia.

For Glenn, giving back to ILR was an act of gratitude for the education and opportunities he received at ILR. When asked how he decided to make this funding commitment, Glenn cheerfully says, "I am currently a labor and employment lawyer and I progressed to where I am because of ILR. I don't think I would have gone into labor and employment law if it had not been for the things I learned in ILR. ILR opened the door into law firms, and I was able to get job interviews and job offers because of my labor relations background. I also had the opportunity to study abroad in Australia, and while I was there, I met my wife, Brooke."

As Glenn reflects back on his international experience in Australia, he shares some insights for students considering an international experience opportunity. He passionately says, "There is a world beyond Ithaca and whether you go to Australia, China, the UK, or anywhere, I strongly recommend you spend a semester or two in a foreign institution. You can get such a different viewpoint about everything. Living in a foreign country is like nothing else. You get a much deeper understanding of not only the country you are living in, but how people view your own country. I think that is something everyone should experience. Moreover, labor relations is a very specific field. When you study labor relations in another country and learn how they handle labor relations, you can really bring what you learned back home and use it to implement innovative solutions."

Glenn's international experience in Australia was life changing. The opportunity to experience the culture and see the world through a different perspective shaped his career path. In his labor and employment law practice today he represents a wide range of clients, including some Australian clients.
