2014 LERA:  Interview with John August, Associate Director, first time LERA attendee

Healthcare Transformation Project team member John August will join 22 other ILR faculty at LERA's 66th Annual Meeting next week in Portland, Oregon from Thursday, May 29th through Sunday, June 1st.  This is John's first LERA meeting and he will be participating on the Researcher's and Practitioner's Examine Invisible Costs of Work panel.   Read more >>

1199 SEIU Event: "The Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the Modern Healthcare Delivery System"

Healthcare Transformation Project team member John August delivered the keynote address to several hundred 1199 SEIU members on April 26, 2014 at "The Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the Modern Healthcare Delivery System". He shared share the background on the underlying drivers of the health care crisis in our nation, how the PPACA and other market forces are driving health care transformation at an accelerated pace, and how frontline staff can contribute to successful change. The event was sponsored by the Institute for Continuing Education of the 1199SEIU League Training and Upgrading Fund and 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East Professional and Technical Department.   Read more >>

Quality and Systems Improvement Workshop: "Why Should Unions Lead on Quality and Innovation?"

Representatives from five Service Employees International Union (SEIU) local unions across the country attended a two-day working conference on April 1st and 2nd "Why Should Unions Lead on Quality and Innovation?" This working conference was convened by the Healthcare Transformation Project to encourage unions to make strategic use of labor-management partnerships to focus on quality improvement activities by increasing frontline staff involvement. By identifying mutual goals and refocusing activities on quality improvement together, labor and management will ultimately be able to ultimately achieve the Triple Aim: improving quality of patient care and their experiences, improving the health of all Americans, and reducing healthcare costs.     Read more >>

Our consulting and coaching activities establish strategic partnerships between labor and management to ensure that hospitals can be effective in engaging their workforce in change and quality improvement activities and preparing their workers for new job responsibilities.
