"Paul Cole has made significant contributions to the labor movement, to public education, and to Cornell University.

"He began his career teaching social studies in the Lewiston-Porter high school, then Paul rose through the ranks of the labor movement serving as President of Lewiston-Porter United Teachers, Assistant to the President of the NY State United Teachers and Political Director of the NY State AFL-CIO prior to his election in 1984 as Secretary-Treasurer of the NY State Federation where he served through 2005. He also served as a Vice President of the AFT from 1974 to 2006.

"Paul has served the public interest tirelessly through participation on numerous boards and commissions. In recent years he has passionately devoted himself to the American Labor Studies Center, which disseminates information about labor history and labor studies to school teachers. Paul is an emeritus member of the Board of Trustees of Cornell University having served as a trustee for 16 years. For many years Paul has assisted the ILR School including serving as the chair of its advisory council.

"I can think of no one who better represents the American labor movement and public school teachers than Paul.

"Paul please join me on the podium."
