A Sustainable World is Possible
April 18, 2005
According to Joaquín Nieto Sáinz, Confederal Secretary of Environment and Occupational Health of Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) and President of SustainLabour Foundation, "The reality of climate change and the exhaustion of fossil fuels mean that we must radically change our patterns of production and consumption. Unions must be a critical part of this historical transition." In this conference, labor environmentalists and movement leaders from Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, El Salvador, Kenya, Senegal, South Africa and several European countries joined U.S. trade unionists for a discussion on climate change and resistance to privatization of basic services like health and water. They considered group ideas for action and education around worker-centered approaches to sustainability. For more information, see the 2005 Sustainability Conference flier. ![]()
