U.S. Labor Delegation at COP 15

In December, the Global Labor Institute joined 31 representatives from the US labor movement at the United Nations Climate change negotiations (COP 15) in Copenhagen. During the two weeks of negotiations, US union delegates participated in various trainings, side events, panels workshops strategy meetings, media events and meetings with US government delegates.
The GLI has been instrumental in building the US delegation and providing technical assistance and training to delegates since COP13 in 2007.
COP 15 Copenhagen World of Work Pavilion Workshops

Cornell GLI successfully organized four workshops at the World of Work Pavilion hosted by LO- Denmark in conjunction with the UN COP 15 Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, December 2009. The workshops included Climate Solidarity: Trade Union Solutions from Greener Workplaces to International Policy, chaired by Guy Ryder, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC); Climate Change and Employment: An Alternative Model for Transport, organized with the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF); Low-Carbon Diet: The Trade Union Vision of Sustainable Food Production and the Right to Food, organized with the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Association (IUF) and GLI Director Sean Sweeney was a presenter at; and Carbon Capture and Storage: Challenges Ahead for Energy and Industry, chaired by Sharan Burrow, President of the ITUC.
