Labor Leaders Climate Forum Retreat at Pocantico
The second annual Labor Leaders Climate Forum retreat was held on July 14-15 at the Pocantico Conference Center of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in Tarrytown, New York. Limited to 30 participants, this retreat brought together representatives from AFL-CIO, eleven US unions, two international union bodies, and seven environmental and policy organizations to discuss research, policies and strategy for climate change and the specific challenges and opportunities it poses for workers. Throughout the two days, forum members engaged in discussions centered around six themes: Strategies for Copenhagen; the Green New Deal; Blue-Green Movement Building; US Climate Legislation; Emissions Reductions Targets; and Green Jobs. This retreat is part of a larger multi-year project, the Labor Leaders Climate Forum, which provides leadership support, policy discussions, technical assistance and research for labor unions in order to further engage the US labor movement in shaping the transition to a low carbon future and a more sustainable economy.
