The UCLEA Northeast Regional Summer Institute for Trade Union Women
UCLEA is a national organization of universities and colleges with recognized programs in the field of labor education/labor studies which serve workers and their organizations, and it is the organization of the professional faculty and staff engaged in such activity. In April 2000 UCLEA will formally merge with Workers' Education Local #189 to form the United Association of Labor Educators (UALE). The new organization will continue to promote labor education activities such as the Northeast Regional Summer Institute for Trade Union Women. Labor Education Center at the University of Connecticut The Labor Education Center at the University of Connecticut offers non-credit courses throughout the state in addition to credit programs in the community college system and the Bachelor of General Studies program offered by the University of Connecticut. The Center conducts residential institutes, conferences, and seminars; serves as a resource for unions, state agencies, academic institutions, and the public. AFL-CIO Education Department The AFL-CIO Education Department serves the affiliate unions of the AFL-CIO by conducting a variety of educational and train-the-trainer programs for union members, staff, and officers across the United States. They work jointly with the education departments of affiliate unions and with other labor support organizations, educating union members on issues like organizing, economics, leadership training, and union administration. They also produce and provide educational materials for affiliates and their members. Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) CLUW has been active for twenty-six years in bringing issues that affect working women to the forefront of public life. Today CLUW and its seventy-five chapters advocate child care, pay equity, labor law reform, national health care, and reproductive freedom. |
