Advancing the Common Good
The commitment to public service is a core value at ILR. Faculty, students, and staff routinely demonstrate their willingness to advance the common good through a range of activities. Their efforts are inspired by the school's founding mission and guided by the research, classroom learning, and hands-on experience that constitute the foundation of ILR.
Meeting the Needs of Society in Many Ways
In helping to meet the needs of society, the ILR community draws on its workplace-related expertise and resources. We share our knowledge through service to organizations in need. We give advice and guidance to policy makers. We answer journalists' questions. We make speeches and presentations. We host visiting scholars and government officials. We organize educational forums and poll public opinion. We publish newsletters and disseminate news. We loan books from our library and offer research assistance to our constituents.
Offering Expertise on Workplace Issues
A public service component is embedded in most of our programs. We are experts in virtually every aspect of the workplace, from the role of unions and best practices in human resources management to the effects of domestic violence and substance abuse on the workplace, cultural change within organizations, conflict resolution, gender and racial diversity, and the integration of persons with disabilities into the workforce.
