Cornell's Mortar Board Senior Honor Society has invited Professor Jeff Cowie to give this semester's hypothetical "Last Lecture." Presented twice a year, the lecture features the university's most prestigious professors.

In recent years, ILR Professors David Lipsky and Ronald Ehrenberg have delivered the "last lecture." It is modeled after "The Last Lecture" speech by a Carnegie Mellon University professor Randy Pausch, who also co-authored "The Last Lecture" book.

Mortar Board, Inc. is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for distinguished ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. The Cornell chapter is the oldest of Mortar Board, predating the national society, founded in 1918, by more than a quarter century. It was one of the four founding chapters along with Ohio State, Swarthmore, and the University of Michigan.
