Work experience program for Regents-diploma bound students with services
Our district is in the process of creating a summer work experience program for students with disabilities on track to graduate with a Regents diploma. There will be a classroom component that will address soft skills as they relate to the job experience and to transitioning out of high school. Does anyone have any curriculum materials they would be willing to share? Or, does any have any good resources I could check out?

Great workbook & we source
I really like the book " Preparing for Life" by Dr. Jed Baker. Subtitled as " the complete guide for transitioning to adulthood for those with autism and asperger's syndrome" it is really for any teen - and even some adults- who is able to follow the direct instruction and activities given. Teachers and parents can use the book's lessions with students and some motivated students may even be able to work on some taks on thier own. The first eight chapters discuss skills assessment, instruction, generalization, transition, etc. The bulk of the book is devoted to skill lessons in categories such as :Dealing with anger /frustration; Nonverbal cues/ body language; conversation; employment skills, etc. there are many specific skill lessons under each category.

Another source is the NSTTAC website and the lesson plans contained on that site.

What tool you use often depends on which social skill you are trying to teach and to what population - the match is really important, but these should get you started.
