Luz joined Cornell University’s Employment and Disability Institute (EDI) in January 2012. Luz provides technical assistance consultation to a variety of constituents for the Northeast ADA Center (NEADA) funded by the National Institute of Disability Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) and the National Technical Assistance, Policy, and Research Center for the Employment of Persons with Disabilities funded by the US Department of Labor Office of Disability and Employment Policy (ODEP) projects in EDI.
Luz previously worked for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) as ADA Coordinator, where she served as the point of contact for internal/external customers in addressing ADA inquiries and concerns. Some of her responsibilities included: monitoring Authority-wide processes, projects and events to ensure compliance with the Federal ADA regulations; conducting training and presentation on the ADA; and providing technical assistance to the Authority’s personnel regarding questions pertaining ADA compliance. She also had prior experience as an ADA Consultant at Virginia Tech. At Virginia Tech, she was responsible for administering policies, procedures and practices to assure the University’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act; and additional applicable federal, state, and local regulations regarding accessibility. Furthermore, she provided consultation to supervisors and business units regarding the ADA and the university’s processes in carrying out the ADA.
