Nancy Hinkley joined Cornell University’s Employment and Disability Institute (EDI) in July 2005 following over two decades in professional practice as a special educator specializing in secondary special education instruction, program development, and administration. Ms. Hinkley currently serves as a transition specialist with the Midstate and Hudson Transition Coordination Sites (TCS), a NYSED Training and Technical Assistance Network. Her outreach work as a transition specialist includes the training of district secondary education teams throughout the upstate NY area regarding the alignment of transition planning with standards-based educational programming. Her efforts in this area are devoted to improving the quality and effectiveness of school-based teams’ transition planning for students with disabilities, leading to improved adult outcomes for these students in the areas of work options, standard of living and life satisfaction.

In addition to transition planning, Ms. Hinkley’s interests include rural special education and rural school issues. Ms. Hinkley holds Permanent New York State Certificates in Special Education, Elementary Education, Social Studies, and as a School District Administrator. She currently chairs the NYS TCS Indicator #2 Dropout Prevention Training Development Workgroup, serves on the NYS Transition and Standards Integration workgroup, is a member of the Bainbridge-Guilford School District Board of Education and has served on the board of the Catskill Regional Teacher Center.
