Person Centered Planning Education Site

1. The intent of the 1997 Amendments to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is to strengthen academic expectations and accountability for the education of all students who are disabled.

2. Transition planning and the development of the Individualized Education Program are separate planning processes in New York State.

3. Transition planning should be conducted in all of the areas critical to adult life.

4. Person-centered planning can play a strong role in the development of a student's Individualized Education Program.

5. The post-school outcome statements are not connected to the development of the student's Individualized Education Program.
