The Citizen-Centered Leadership Development Community of Practice series is a unique combination of self-paced distance learning study, robust field work, interactive class assignments and live webcast instruction designed to advance theoretic and skill-based learning leading to quality outcomes in the lives of people with disabilities.

Through the use of PowerPoint presentation, lecture and written materials participants will gain the knowledge and tools needed to provide critical information to SSI recipients with disabilities who are considering a return to work. Recruiting and hiring qualified employees with disabilities requires a multi-faceted strategy. To be most effective, employers and federal contractors should become familiar with resources both at the national and local levels. This webinar will highlight two important resources listed in the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) proposed revised regulations of Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended and released on December 9, 2011: the National Employment Team and the Employer Assistance and Resource Network (EARN). Presenters will describe their organizations’ services and discuss how HR professional may establish on-going relationships and linkages to facilitate the recruitment and hiring of candidates with disabilities. Webinar participants will learn about recruitment and outreach resources and hear from a large federal contractor about the value of establishing national and local linkages for tapping into the underutilized talent of persons with disabilities.

This live, instructor-led on-line program will provide attendees with an overview of the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design and highlight those areas where accessibility requirements found in the Virgin Islands Building Code differ from federal accessibility requirements. Specifically, this course will focus on: problem application areas in commercial facilities, accessibility requirements in existing facilities and accessibility requirements to and within special occupancies. We will also focus on the new guidelines for toilet rooms and other aspects of the built environment.
